Eremiaphila species

Observations:

  • Regenfeld (Great Sand Sea), November 1997
  • Crater "C" (Clayton's Craters), March 2000
  • Silica Glass area (Great Sand Sea), November 2000
  • BP Crater (NE of Kufra), November 2001
  • Abu Mungar dunes (edge of Great Sand Sea), October 2002
  • Wadi Sora (Gilf Kebir), November 2004
  • Wadi Sora (Gilf Kebir), October 2005
  • On sand plain south of the Gilf Kebir, October 2006
  • On Selima Sand Sheet ~100km west of Selima Oasis, November 2017

Several individuals of the Eremiaphila genus were seen in diverse sandy areas, void of any vegetation. None were seen in vegetated areas. The species remain unidentified, it is unclear wether the spread of sizes and the variation in colour are due to different development stages, or represent different species. One group of particularly large individuals were seen around a recently died Ardea cinerea, apparently feeding on the carcass.
