Utetheisa lotrix
This moth species was abundant in Wadi Handal (Jebel Uweinat) one year after the rains of 2005. The species was observed both in a larval stage, feeding on green Crotalaria thebaica shrubs, and in adult form. One year later, still numerous adult individuals were observed in the same location on still thriving Crotalaria thebaica vegetation. It was not observed at any other time or location. Initially the species was identified as Utithesia pulchella, but Niyaz Ismagilov made the correct identification (U. pulchella has rectangular red spots along the anterior margin of the wing, while the spots of U. lotrix are more irregular).
