About an hour away from the northern camp at Tamrit, towards the south-west, there is a group of sandstone spires rising from the reg in a cluster. The rock art sites of Timenzouzine are just beyond, in a small wadi. Up on the reg, just before the wadi there is a large engraved elephant on a flat rock surface. The paintings are not as spectacular as the major sites, but there are a few unique ones, and they make a pleasant easy afternoon walk. (They are usually not visited, because the 'standard' programme calls for Tan Zumaitak for the afternoon of the first day, after the ascent in the morning, and a straight descent on the last day.) |
