Leirus quinquestriatus

Observations:

  • Great Sand Sea (approx. 60 kms south of Siwa), March 2004
  • Karkur Talh (Jebel Uweinat), March 2005

Despite the popular misconcept of the desert swarming with scorpions, only two specimens were ever noted during our travels in the Libyan Desert, both the same species. In both cases, they were found by accident, lifting a rock under which they were resting during the daylight.
