Introduction

Amongst all our travels in the Sahara and other lands, the Tassili N'Ajjer remains the ultimate destination. Nowhere else have we encountered such a combination of sheer natural beauty, ancient monuments and overwhelming peace and solitude. This site was designed as a response to the surprisingly little information that is available on the web about the Tassili and it's rock art. It's main purpose is to inspire, encourage and to provide practical information to those who wish to visit.

We have been there twice, in the autumns of 1991 (incidentally our honeymoon) and 1993. Unfortunately the subsequent sad political events in northern Algeria have placed all of the country off limits for travelers (though no troubles have ever been reported from the south). However, the situation seems to be slowly normalizing. In the past couple of years more and more travellers are returning, and the reports are very encouraging. Flying in via Algiers is perfectly safe, and the overland route via Tunisia is also becoming popular.

A little about ourselves: we are a couple from Budapest, Hungary. Besides our professional lives we organise trips to the remotest part of the Sahara, to the central Libyan Desert. At the moment we do not plan any tours to the Tassili, but will be happy to help with hints and advice on organising your own trips. If you like this site, please visit our other website: FJ Expeditions, offering tours to the very remote and magnificent rock art sites of Jebel Uweinat & the Gilf Kebir.

Happy Travels wherever you go !
