Hyles livornica
In November 2004 a striped hawk-moth was caught in the evening at Wadi Sora, attracted by our headlamps. The species was seen again during the evening at Karkur Talh in March 2007 (but not photographed), and was noted drinking from the small pool at the spring of Ain Duarmé (Karkur Ibrahim, Jebel Uweinat) in November 2010.
Note: in older literature the saharan populaton is considered a subspecies of Hyles lineata, however recently the latter was demonstarted to be a distinct species restricted to the New World. The morphological differences between the two have been well documented by Eitschberger & Steiniger (1976).
