ALMÁSY, László
Ismeretlen Szahara

(Unknown Sahara)

First Edition 1934
Second Edition 193?

After the forced suspension of publication for most of 1932 and 1933, the following was a prolific year, with 8 titles released, of which seven were new. Evidently preparation continued, only printing was stopped as demand for books dropped due to the depression. We do not have any record about the order in which these titles were published, so here an alphabetic order will be followed by author. The first on the list is the second book of Almásy in the series, describing his explorations and discoveries in the Libyan desert in the 1929-34 period. The book was probably published late in 1934 (or even 1935 according to some sources), Almásy's foreword is dated September 1934, a realistic time for the completion of the manuscript. Unlike most titles from 1934 onwards, two slightly different editions are known. The first appeared with two binding variations, the Classic III. and the Classic IV. full cloth version, apparently available simultaneously. A second edition appeared probably a few years later in the Classic IV. only, the only observable difference is that in the first edition the illustrations start opposite page 8, while in the second opposite page 24, and also the order of the illustrations is somewhat changed. Both editions are believed to have had the same dust jacket (though it is only confirmed for the first). The reverse of the dust jacket announces a new series of ten titles, apparently all of them published in 1934. It is not known if the particular dust jacket dates after all were published, or is a list of a mix of published and intended titles.
