Total Solar Eclipse, Libya
23rd March - 2nd April, 2006

The objective of the trip was to see the total solar eclipse of 29th March on the eclipse centerline, as close as possible to the point of maximum eclipse in Southern Libya. Given the extreme bureucracies in both Egypt (the starting point) and Libya, the plans and itinerary had to be changed several times, and the final trip looked nothing like the one originally planned. However we did succeed in seeing the eclipse form a perfect viewing location, undisturbed by the crowds who gathered at the "official" viewing spots. Below is a short photo summary of our trip (eclipse landscape photos by Gábor Merkl).
