Balanites aegyptiaca

Observations:

  • Eastern Wadi Abd el Melik (Gilf Kebir)

There is a grove of three trees of the species near the end of the driveable section of the eastern branch of Wadi Abd el Melik, the only known occurrence of the species in the Libyan Desert. The species may have been the source for the 'olives' found by Harding King in the stomachs of pigeons flying to Dakhla from the west, leading to the speculation of an 'Olive oasis' to the west of Dakhla.
