Flies are abundant in all the valleys with vegetation, both in the Gilf Kebir and at Jebels Arkenu and Uweinat. In Karkur Talh they are can be irritatingly numerous, and on one occasion at Jebel Arkenu in October 2003 their numbers were extraordinary. There are most probably numerous species, the flesh fly photographed in Wadi Hamra and Karkur Murr is one of the larger ones (about 12 mm).
