These large red and silver ants are a little smaller than the black Camponotus species, and were noted only in the vicinity of their nests near vegetation at two locations, in the Great Sand Sea and Wadi Handal. Species identification was subsequently confirmed by Peter Slingsby (www.ants.org.za).
